CDS 3 for 3 in CENGN Tests

The results are back. And StreamScan’s Cyberthreat Detection System (CDS) passed with flying colours. Starting in 2019, StreamScan partnered with Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks (CENGN) to carry out third-party testing to demonstrate the effectiveness of its CDS network monitoring platform. CENGN was the perfect partner because of its reputation as a respected testbed for innovative technologies.

The Test

CENGN installed the CDS on a Bare Metal server in a dedicated project space and proceeded to test three use cases.

1: Infect a windows user with malware from a remote C&C server. The CDS was able to detect the infection and generated an alert.

2: Infect a windows user with a data exfiltration client. The CDS detected the communication with the C&C server and produced an alarm.

3: Integrate with a pfSense firewall. The CDS successfully instructed the firewall to block data returning to the C&C server.

That’s 3 for 3.

In the words of the CENGN report, “the result was successful functionality testing of the CDS in an OpenStack environment, proving they have a reliable and adaptable cybersecurity solution.”
