Palantir Deal Lack Transparency

Karim Ganame recently asked Le Journal de Montréal for his opinion on the million-dollar contract that Ottawa has allegedly signed with the controversial surveillance firm Palantir.

“I’m skeptical,” he stated. The government's lack of transparency regarding the information being collected by Palantir is very concerning. "What are they doing with this information?” he asked. “The government should be transparent and tell us what it's for.”

In March, the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces allocated $997,434 to Palantir to license their Gotham surveillance software.

It's no secret that the surveillance firm had been working closely with Cambridge Analytica and had been caught in the middle of the huge controversy surrounding data collected about Facebook users.

The Department of National Defense refused to release any information about whether the contract was renewed in March or whether it would be renewed in the near future.
