Artificial Intelligence in Cybersecurity

For the last few years, we’ve been hearing about the application of artificial intelligence in the cybersecurity world. This year technology and innovation have taken a backseat to news on COVID-19. But there’s no doubt that AI is back in the news now. And its growing role in cybersecurity and cybercrime raises serious concerns. With this in mind, our CEO Karim Ganame shared his views on the use of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity in an interview with SmarterSMP, a leading reference source in the IT industry.

Modeling malicious behavior to fight it faster

Increasingly, cybercriminals are using AI to automate attacks and bypass the existing security infrastructure. In his interview with well-known American cybersecurity journalist Kevin Williams, Mr. Ganame explains that where AI shows promise is in its use of algorithms to counter the most significant threat: ransomware. The idea is to model the behavior of ransomware then detect similar behavior in real-time. At StreamScan, we analyze ransomware to recreate its behavioral models. Our CDS technology continuously trains itself via its models to detect anomalies and suspicious behaviors that are a sign of ransom activity.
